How to choose an ed-tech without getting sold to. Updated October 2026.
Four of India's best-known tech ed-techs, what they teach, what reviews say, and a straight verdict for each kind of learner.
What is an edtech company?
Edtech means education delivered through technology: live online classes, practice portals, mentors and career support. In tech, these companies sell structure and accountability, because the raw content is already free on YouTube. They fall into two groups: short upskilling programs (6 to 12 months) for working people, and university-linked B-Tech degrees. Several of the companies below run both.
The three companies
Scaler
- Courses: Scaler Academy (about 39 weeks at 15 hours a week, for developers with 1+ years of experience), data science, DevOps, and a BSc at Scaler School of Technology, Bangalore.
- Rating: 4.37 on Course Report from 94 reviews. Trustpilot's overall score is currently unavailable.
- Their claim: 67% career transition rate and ₹15 LPA median CTC for the assessed 2026 cohort (company-assessed).
- Watch out for: High fees. Some reviewers complain about sales promises of jobs and say free content is comparable.
Newton School
- Courses: 4-year B-Tech in CS & AI at Newton School of Technology, with Rishihood University in Sonipat. Admission is through the NSAT test and an interview. Founded in 2023.
- Rating: 4.3 value-for-money on Shiksha from 24 reviews.
- Their claim: Average package about ₹12 LPA, highest ₹64 LPA, 1,500+ hiring partners (aggregator-reported).
- Watch out for: Published fees vary from about ₹15 lakh to ₹27 lakh depending on source. The program is very new, so long-term outcome data is limited.

Bosscoder Academy
- Courses: Software engineering prep for product companies, plus data analytics, data engineering and DSML/GenAI, with 1:1 mentorship and installment plans. Also a B-Tech in CS & AI (about ₹17.75 lakh).
- Rating: About 4.4 on Course Report; 111 alumni reviews overall.
- Their claim: States it does not guarantee a job. B-Tech figures cited: ₹27 LPA average, ₹99 LPA highest (institution-reported).
- Watch out for: At least one July 2026 reviewer warns of a scam, and degree placement numbers come from a very young program.
Coding Ninjas
- Courses: Foundation courses in C++, Java and Python for beginners, plus a 36-week online Career Camp bootcamp (15 to 20 hours a week), full stack, data analytics and newer GenAI courses, for students, freshers and working professionals. It is now a subsidiary of Info Edge, the company behind Naukri.com.
- Rating: 4.95 on Course Report from 43 reviews, 4.3 on G2 from 8 reviews, and mixed reviews on Trustpilot (55 reviews), where some learners praise the course and others report poor outcomes after paying high fees.
- Their claim: A 95% placement rate for eligible learners, no job guarantee, and no-cost EMI from about ₹7,000 a month plus scholarships up to 50% through a test (all company-reported).
- Watch out for: Review scores differ sharply across sites, so the 4.95 comes from a small sample. A third-party listing shows program fees of roughly ₹11,000 to ₹30,000, but bootcamp fees will differ, so get the exact total in writing.
Side by side

The verdict
There is no single winner. Choose by situation:
- College student or fresher: Add Coding Ninjas to your shortlist. It starts with beginner-friendly courses and a free-trial style entry point, and its Course Report score is high. But reviews on Trustpilot are polarized, so try a trial and read the negative reviews before paying for a bootcamp.
- Working developer aiming for a product company: Shortlist Scaler and Bosscoder. Scaler has the longest history and most published data but is pricey. Bosscoder is open about no job guarantee and offers installment plans. Take demo classes at both and compare total fees in writing.
- Switching into data or AI: Look at Bosscoder first for its dedicated data tracks, then compare Scaler's data science program. Ask for alumni who changed fields.
- Disciplined and on a tight budget: Start free. Pay only if you keep stalling.
Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
Q1. Are these edtech programs worth the money?
It depends on your goal and discipline. Reviewers praise the structure, mentorship and interview practice, but others say the content is available free and the fees are high. Treat the cost as payment for accountability and guidance, not for content.
Q2. Do they guarantee a job?
No one should be assumed to. Bosscoder and Coding Ninjas both say they offer placement support but no job guarantee. Some Scaler reviewers say salespeople promised jobs. Be wary of any guarantee, and ask for the terms in writing.
Q3. Which one is best for working professionals?
Shortlist Scaler and Bosscoder. Their ratings are close. Scaler has the longest history and the most published data. Bosscoder is open about not guaranteeing jobs and offers installment plans. Attend demo classes at both before deciding.
Q4. What should I ask the counsellor?
Ask for the full fee in writing including GST, the refund policy, loan or EMI terms, the number of learners placed per batch, and whether you can speak to alumni with your background.
